ALEXANDER KASYANOV. BARITONE. SOLOIST OF THE BOLSHOI THEATRE

BIOGRAPHY

Alexander Kasyanov was born in Moscow. In 1996 he graduated with honours from the Gnesin Music College and in 1999 from the Russian Academy of the Performing Arts (RATI previously GITIS). From 1999-2001 he did a postgraduate course at the Academy’s faculty of vocal art. From 2000-03, he was a soloist at the State Academic Moscow Operetta Theatre. From 2003-05 he was a postgraduate at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre, where he made his debut as Grigory Griaznoy (Rimsky-Korsakov’s “The Tsar’s Bride”). He took part in the master classes of Mstislav Rostropovich, Galina Vishnevskaya, Boris Pokrovsky, Mauro Trombetta, Eugene Kon, Tito Capobianco, Sherill Milnes, Mikhail Yurovski, Placido Domingo, and Pavel Lisitsyn and Evgeniy Nesterenko. Since 2005, he has been a soloist at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre.

In 2011, he participated in an Opera Tampa Young Artist Program under the leadership of Sherill Milnes (Florida, USA). He participated in the following international music and arts festivals:  Sergey Rahmaninov and Ukrainian Culture (Kharkov), Russian Music in the Baltic (Kaliningrad), Russian Culture in South Africa, The Mstislav Rostropovich Festival in Moscow.  He took part in a concert performance of La Traviata at in the Spazio Musica Festival (Orvieto, Italy), singing the part of Giorgio Germont in La Traviata (conductor Marco Zambelli). In 2013 he took part in The Santiago de Compostela International Festival, Spain.

He has also toured in Italy, France, Germany, Slovakia, Serbia, Poland, Czechia, Belgium, Mexico, USA and South Africa.

AT THE BOLSHOI THEATRE

Since February, 2014 Alexander Kasyanov has been a regular actor in the Bolshoi Theater. His debut took place on February 22 in the premier performance of «The Tsar's Bride» as lead role Grigory Gryaznov.

On April 28, 2014 he took apart in a tour of the Bolshoi Theater at Theater an der Wien (Vienna, Austria).

In July he was the featured baritone at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center (New York) under the direction of Gennady Rozhdestvensky.

Since November 2014 Alexander has been headlining in the role of Schaunard, «La Boheme» by Giacomo Puccini under the direction of Tugan Sokhiev.

On February 27, 2015 Alexander played Tomsky in the premier performance of Tchaikovsky opera «The Queen of Spades», conductor is Mikhail Jurowski.

On March 20-22 as a part of a Bolshoi Theater tour Kasyanov was performing on the stage of the Hong Kong Arts Festival. He was reprising his role as Grigory Gryaznov's under the direction of Gennady Rozhdestvensky.

On October 30, 2015  Alexander played Ebn Khakia in «Iolanta» by P. Tchaikovsky. Conductor Anton Grishanin.

On February 19, 2016 Alexander played the Sergeant's role in D. Shostakovich's opera "Katerina Izmaylova". Conductor Tugan Sokhiev.
